In the last few years, an emerging trend has been gaining more and more ground in the fashion world: we are talking about sustainable shoes. This innovative footwear is changing the way we think about shoes, providing not only style and comfort, but also leading to an increased environmental awareness that allows us to make more sustainable choices. Garsport interprets this trend offering models that combine a green approach while still achieving high performance.
Garsport’s sustainable shoes
Most sport and hiking shoes are made of leather and plastic, materials that have a very large environmental footprint. Plastic is not readily biodegradable and can remain in the environment for hundreds of years before decomposing. Leather is treated with chemicals that end up in the environment, polluting it.
Garsport shoes, on the other hand, are made from natural materials through a sustainable production process and are designed to have a positive impact on the environment. Eco line shoes are available in a low-cut version, like a sneaker, and in a mid-cut version: they are comfortable to wear in the city, on easy hiking trails and for urban trekking.
Leather and eco-friendly uppers
Leather tanning has a very strong impact on the environment: it involves a lot of water consumption and a significant amount of biological and chemical waste. In order to be more environmentally friendly, the upper and lining of Garsport’s sustainable shoes are made from natural materials.
Cedro footwear has an upper made of Zero Impact Nubuk leather. Thanks to some special leather tanning and treatment processes, no hazardous chemicals such as chromium are used in the processing phase, reducing emissions and pollution.
Betulla shoes have an upper made of Nubuk Zero Impact leather combined with cotton, which is organically grown without the use of pesticides and other chemicals.
Both models sport a Zero Impact tumbled and perforated calf leather lining that provides good breathability. The insole is made of felt and cotton.
Recycled rubber sole
The search for new ecological solutions has allowed to produce recycled materials that can be used in the manufacturing of soles while respecting nature. Back in 1994 Vibram designed the first pioneering eco-compound, which has since become the global benchmark for recycled rubber for shoe soles.
Garsport’s Eco line shoes feature Vibram’s EcoStep soles: they are made with a minimum of 30% recycled rubber through the partial reuse of production waste. This solution allows to reduce production process waste from the very beginning and to decrease waste dispersion in the environment. EcoStep soles are suitable for casual footwear and designed for light outdoor activities. They provide secure grip urban trails, easier paths undemanding terrain.
